Barry Lawrence Named ECAA’s New Safety Instructor

Barry Lawrence, Director and founder of Bastion Safety, has already delivered one 2-day Safety Principles course for the Electrical Contractors Association of Alberta, and will deliver two more on April 19-20 in Grande Prairie and May 3-4 in Edmonton.

Barry graduated as a journeyman electrician in 2001. From 1998 to 2012 he was active in construction and maintenance electrical, eventually specializing in motor control, and cranes. In the late 2000’s Barry made the switch to technical management winning several awards as an asset manager, and eventually segued into safety, graduating with honours from the University of Alberta’s Occupational Health & Safety Program.

In 2014 Barry founded Bastion, and began field safety and management work for several multi-national organizations on a contract basis, before focusing his attention on teaching, training development and management; both live and online.

The Safety Principles course lays the groundwork for developing a successful safety program and mitigating additional employer risk. Participants will learn to identify common gaps found in safety systems, simple ways to interpret legislation, and many other valuable tools including. Course topics include:

• health and safety obligations (employer and worker)
• employee competency
• WCB expectations
• post incident procedures and investigations
• CSA Z463 and Z462
• claims management strategies
