Electric Avenue Annouces Improved Cold Temperature Rating of -40 Degrees

April 26, 2024

Electric Avenue, a leading innovator in electric vehicle (EV) charging solutions, is thrilled to announce significant improvements to the cold temperature performance of its flagship products, the Watti Pro Lite and Watti Home Gen2. After comprehensive environmental testing, both chargers now boast an impressive operational rating of -40 degrees Celsius, surpassing the previous rating of -30 degrees Celsius.

This past winter, parts of Western Canada faced record-setting cold temperatures, challenging the reliability of both electric vehicle chargers as well as traditional gas pumps. Recognizing the vital need for dependable performance in extreme conditions, Electric Avenue committed to further environmental testing of its products. โ€œOur goal was to ensure that our chargers consistently deliver reliable service, enabling EV owners to maintain their routines without disruption, even during severe cold snaps,โ€ said Catherine Callaghan, Product Engineer at Electric Avenue.

Electric Avenue Annouces Improved Cold Temperature Rating of -40 Degrees

Throughout the testing procedure, conducted in a controlled cold temperature chamber, the EV chargers underwent rigorous assessments. The chamber simulated extreme cold conditions, consistently reaching temperatures as low as -40 degrees Celsius. The testing included multiple cycles to ensure the chargers’ performance under prolonged exposure to cold temperatures.

Two critical tests were conducted:

Cold Start Test: This test evaluated the chargers’ ability to initiate charging from a complete power-off state in extremely low temperatures. Despite the challenging conditions, Electric Avenueโ€™s chargers successfully powered on, initiated, and maintained charging sessions effortlessly.

Running Start Test: In this test, the chargers were assessed for their performance when already operational in cold temperatures and a charging session began. They were subjected to continuous charging cycles, simulating real-world usage scenarios. Once again, Electric Avenueโ€™s chargers demonstrated exceptional reliability, maintaining consistent performance throughout the testing period.

This accomplishment underscores Electric Avenueโ€™s dedication to innovation and customer satisfaction, providing reliable solutions for charging station operators and EV drivers in Canada, where sub-zero temperatures are common. By surpassing industry standards, Electric Avenueโ€™s flagship chargers ensure reliable performance even in the harshest winter conditions.

The Watti Pro Lite and Watti Home Gen2 are available for purchase through Electric Avenueโ€™s wholesale distribution partners across Canada and throughout select states in the US.
