NETCO 2024 Conference in Victoria: The Evolution of the Electrician

September 20, 2024

The Evolution of the Electrical Industry was Showcased eariler this month in Victoria, BC with the 2024 installment of NETCO’s Annual Conference

Leaders and experts from the electrical industry gathered in Victoria, BC, September 5-6th, at the picturesque Inn at Laurel Point for the annual National Electrical Trade Council (NETCO) educational conference and trade show.

With this year’s theme, “Evolution of the Electrician,” NETCO and thier partners explored the past, present, and future of highly skilled electrical workers within the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers (IBEW) and their affiliated contractor associations.

The 2024 conference also marks NETCO’s 25th anniversary of advancing education and advocacy within the electrical industry across Canada.

As part of the event, NETCO unveiled a groundbreaking new Motor Control curriculum package, soon to be available to IBEW training centers across the country. This innovative curriculum incorporates virtual reality (VR), offering an immersive learning experience that transitions students from classroom labs to full installations in a unique VR environment. As one of the most challenging courses in electrical trade schools, this new VR training aims to close the skills gap among new apprentices and better prepare them for on-the-job challenges. Special thanks to our conference theme partner, NORCAT, for their dedication to developing this cutting-edge product.

The keynote address was delivered by Barry Penner, KC, Chair of the Energy Futures Institute, established in 2023 to foster meaningful dialogue on critical energy issues.

Conference delegates had the opportunity to participate in two dynamic educational sessions. One will be hosted by A’Jahni Aska of TalentLMS, while the other, presented by Rubicon Strategy Inc., provided a comprehensive overview of government relations.

An onsite trade show featured several valued sponsors and training partners, providing ample networking and engagement opportunities for all attendees.
