The Manitoba government has amended the trade regulation for the trade of Power Electrician, Manitoba Regulation 10/2018. The following details the changes that have been made to the regulation and will be effective beginning May 1, 2018.

The definition of power electrician has been updated as a person who installs, maintains and operates high and low voltage equipment within or connected to the bulk electrical system, including generators, converters, transformers, interruptive equipment and auxiliary systems.

To be considered a journeyperson in the trade of power electrician, a person must hold both a certificate of qualification in the trade and an electrician’s licence under The Electricians’ Licence Act.

The update to the definition was made to provide clarification of the tasks within the trade of Power Electrician. The scope for Power Electricians is outlined in the Provincial Occupational Standard (POS).

For the regulation update, see web2.gov.mb.ca/laws/regs/index_annual.php.
