A team of 26 Alectra Utilities employees donned assorted pairs of red shoes recently and walked a mile through Hamilton, Ontario’s downtown area to help raise awareness and funds to end violence against women.

Through its participation, the Alectra Utilities’ team contributed over $10,000 to the $130,000 total raised in support of the cause at this event organized by YWCA Hamilton.

“Our continued support of events like ‘Walk a Mile in Her Shoes’ is an integral part of Alectra’s values,” says Dan Pastoric, VP Strategic Growth and Special Projects and one of the team members who sported red heels. “Together, we can help make our community a safer, healthier place for women and children.”

Alectra has supported the ‘Walk a Mile in Her Shoes’ event for two consecutive years through employee participation and as a sponsor. This year saw Alectra walk away with accolades for having the biggest team as well as being the top fundraiser at the event.

Funds raised through the walk support essential programs and services for women, girls and their families. The event promotes awareness and conversation around homelessness, violence, poverty and mental health to improve gender relations and to ultimately end violence.

Alectra distributes electricity to nearly one million customers in Ontario’s Greater Golden Horseshoe Area.
