Rittal Earns Rising Star Award for its Edge Computing Solutions

EIN Rittal Edge 400

Sept 27, 2019

Rittal has received the Rising Star award in the edge computing category from the Information Services Group (ISG), one of the world’s leading IT market research and consulting organisations. The official prize-giving ceremony took place within the scope of the ISG Provider Lens Awards 2019 in the Golf Yards Lounge in Berlin.

The Rising Star award is granted to vendors who have made highly significant progress in terms of solution development in the last twelve months. According to ISG, Rittal’s edge portfolio has great future potential and the management possesses an excellent understanding of local markets. Moreover, ISG analysed the product roadmap and identified a clear focus on market trends and customer imperatives. The Rising Star award also reflects a belief that Rittal is expected to be named a leader by ISG’s market analysis in the next one to two years, with a position within the leader quadrant.

An ever-growing product offering

Through its own development work and global partnerships, Rittal has continuously expanded its edge computing portfolio. Its solutions include the Edge Data Center (EDC) for the rapid implementation of distributed edge computing infrastructure, featuring highly efficient cooling, and the Micro Data Center (MDC), a modular safe for the deployment of edge data centres in harsh environments. The Industrial Edge Data Center (IEDC) is a joint offering from Atos, Rittal and Siemens that is ideal for state-of-the-art industrial scenarios and for real-time processing of Internet of Things (IoT) data. The Security Edge Data Center (SEDC) is a robustly protected solution developed in collaboration with HPE and ABB. This is a completely preconfigured, turnkey solution that can be deployed at extremely short notice.

Rittal quick to recognize potential

ISG believes Rittal’s standout strengths are its extensive experience of data centre development and its innovative product range. Rittal was quick to identify the potential of edge computing for the Industry 4.0 and the Internet of Things market. In association with its sister company Innovo Cloud, Rittal today offers a comprehensive solution portfolio, including managed and cloud services.

Edge data centres of ever greater importance

Edge data centres enable the low-latency, real-time processing of data at the site where they are generated. This might be data captured by machine-control sensors, vehicle tracking systems or connected devices in a smart city. Moreover, cloud connectivity is crucial to the deployment of edge systems – as only downstream data centres have the IT resources required for compute-intensive data analytics, e.g. on the scale necessary for machine learning and predictive maintenance. The results of these analyses are, in turn, applied via the edge data centres e.g. to enhance production.
