BC Honours Electrical Training Advocate with 2015 Lieutenant Governor Safety Award

Andy Cleven, a member of the BC Safety Authority’s Electrical Joint Training Committee, is one of seven recipients of BC’s highest safety honour, a Lieutenant Governor Safety Awards.

The awards, to be presented on November 23, recognize individuals and organizations demonstrating exceptional leadership, achievement or innovation in the promotion of technical systems safety in BC.

Andy Cleven has 43 years of experience as an electrical journeyperson and the Director of the Electrical Joint Training Committee. He served on the Heavy Industry Training Advisory steering committee, where he developed a program for the Red Seal trade of Industrial Electrician. He is the driving force behind re-introducing mentorship in the electrical trades to ensure apprentices begin their career by developing not only trade safety skills, but also effective communication skills and resources. Additionally, Andy developed the national program standards and certification for photovoltaic solar installations and electric vehicle infrastructure. He has been an advocate for improving the process of integrating internationally trained workers into the Canadian workplace for successful careers in the electrical trade. He also serves on a number of committees including the National Electrical Trades Council steering committee.
