Power management company Eaton today announced the launch of Halo Home, a Bluetooth® mesh, smart lighting system that allows homeowners to automate and control one light or a host of lighting products throughout the home using a smart mobile device. A home can have more than 100 lighting products, and homeowners are turning to connected lighting products for better functionality, security and safety, as well as lifestyle enrichment and wellness.

Hydro One has Helped 45,000 Small Businesses Save About $176 Million Through Lighting Retrofits

 

Hydro One has announced that Richard’s Coffee House in Brockville is its 45,000 customer to take part in the Small Business Lighting program. Since launching in 2008, the Save on Energy program at Hydro One has helped 45,000 small business customers invest in energy efficient lighting and reduce their consumption by more than 1,037 GWh, which represents an estimated $176 million savings.

EFC to Establish an LVDC Steering Committee/Product Section

 

Last year, Electro-Federation Canada published a research study on low-voltage DC (LVDC) power and the implications and opportunities this technology will have on the electrical market. Recently, EFC learned that the Canadian government has a vested interest in promoting LVDC power to remote communities, the new Canadian Electrical Code is in effect and now includes updates for LVDC installation and use, and CSA is forming a new technical committee for LVDC.

Variable Speed Generator in Aklavik Successfully Commissioned

 

NTPC is pleased to report that the Variable Speed Generator (VSG) Project in Aklavik has reached a major milestone with successful commissioning of the test unit. Electricity is now being provided to the more than 300 NTPC customers in Aklavik using a converter-based VSG platform. The VSG will also integrate solar power from a new 55 kilowatt solar array, installed by the GNWT earlier this year.

Massachusetts Request for Proposals – Hydro-Québec Energy Selection Confirmed

Hydro-Québec’s energy has once again been selected in the Massachusetts clean energy request for proposals process. In view of signing a contract for the supply of 9.45 TWh of clean energy, the members of the Massachusetts evaluation team will negotiate in parallel with the proponents of two transmission line projects, both being conducted in partnership with Hydro-Québec, and one transmission line project will be chosen.

Coverage is 516 square feet and includes support for 15 users simultaneously, all through the use of industry standard white LEDs.
