The U.S. Department of Energy (DoE) has put a request in the 2016 budget for US$3.5 billion over the next 10 years for investment in smart grid foundational technology development, enhanced security capabilities, and greater institutional support and stakeholder engagement. The request appears in the first installation of a Quadrennial Energy Review, which includes initiatives to promote grid modernization.
Over the next 25 years, Nova Scotia’s tidal energy industry could contribute up to $1.7 billion to the province’s gross domestic product (GDP), create up to 22,000 full time positions and generate as much as $815 million in labour income, according to a recently published study. Representatives of Canada’s trade contract communities came together in Ottawa on April 8 to discuss the urgent need for federal and provincial governments to adopt prompt payment legislation. The National Trade Contractors Coalition of Canada (NTCCC) Prompt Payment Summit allowed members to highlight progress that has been made at the provincial level and to discuss next steps for seeing these initiatives through. The summit also focused on strategies to engage other concerned stakeholders who operate regionally and at the federal level.
