NTCCC Summit Paves the Way for Trade Contractor

Representatives of Canada’s trade contract communities came together in Ottawa on April 8 to discuss the urgent need for federal and provincial governments to adopt prompt payment legislation. The National Trade Contractors Coalition of Canada (NTCCC) Prompt Payment Summit allowed members to highlight progress that has been made at the provincial level and to discuss next steps for seeing these initiatives through. The summit also focused on strategies to engage other concerned stakeholders who operate regionally and at the federal level.

Wind Tower Maker Fined $80,000 Following Lock-out Incident

TSP Canada Towers Inc., a manufacturer of wind towers in Thorold, ON, has pleaded guilty and has been fined $80,000 after a worker was crushed by components being moved along a line. A failure to lock the equipment control boxes is being cited as the cause of the accident.

BC Adding New Wind Farms in Okanagan to Power System

BC Hydro is adding new clean wind power to the provincial electricity grid, including two new wind farms in the Okanagan – the first ever for the region. Three agreements were recently announced for new developments near West Kelowna, Summerland and Taylor that will provide enough electricity to power 14,000 homes a year.

Philips Provides Light as a Service to Amsterdam’s Airport

Amsterdam’s Schipol Airport, Royal Philips and contractor Cofely Nederland NV have signed an agreement for new lighting in terminal buildings under which Schipol pays for the light it uses and Philips remains the owner of all fixtures and installations. Philips and Cofely will be jointly responsible for the performance and durability of the system and ultimately its re-use and recycling at end of life.
