ESA Warns of Lichtenberg Wood Burning Machines Sold by Various Sellers Online

The Electrical Safety Authority (ESA) is notifying the public about unapproved and dangerous electrical products offered for sale to Ontario customers by Lichtenberg Wood Burning and Conestoga Works LLC. 

These products are unapproved, have not been tested for compliance with any Canadian Safety Standards and do not bear any recognized Canadian certification marks. 

These products are extremely dangerous. They contain live high voltage parts and are unsafe for any use or handling. Both homemade and pre-built Lichtenberg generators are considered to have the potential to seriously injure or kill the user.  

Name of Product: Lichtenberg wood burning machines, also known as Lichtenberg generators

Sold by various sellers online, two of them are known to ESA:

  1. Deluxe Products (DBA Lichtenberg Wood Burning), 15728 NE 1st Street, Bellevue, WA 98008 USA
  2. Conestoga Works LLC, 4711 Willow Circle, Edmond, OK 73013 USA

Manufactured in: Unknown

Incidents/Injuries: As of 2021, five fatalities and one critical injury in Ontario known to ESA

Remedy: End users should immediately stop using Lichtenberg generators. Safely deactivate and dispose of the electrical components according to local municipal guidelines. It is critical to understand that Lichtenberg generators are unapproved by Certification Bodies / Inspection Bodies and have not been evaluated or tested to any known electrical safety standards for this type of product.
