EFC Scholarships: Attracting and Engaging the New Workforce

Engaging university and college students is critical in our industry, says Joris Myny, Chair of Electro-Federation Canada (EFC)’s scholarship program and a senior vice president of Siemens Canada Limited.

Myny describes the scholarship program as more than funding students. “It is an opportunity to promote our industry in every Canadian university and college and showcase the electrical industry as a viable career choice in Engineering, Sales, Marketing, Finance, Management, Operations, Information Technology and Human Resources.”

This year, the program’s 20th, it will award a record $120,500 across 52 scholarships.Among the scholarships: Kerrwil’s J.W. Kerr Continuing Education Scholarship Award (see below for more on the scholarship).

Who’s eligible

All applicants must be Canadian citizens who have completed at least their first year of study, maintained a minimum 75%average, and be registered in a full-time eligible post-secondary degree or diploma program at a recognized Canadian university or college. Applicants may apply for a total of only three scholarships. Some scholarships require EFC member affiliation; view membership list at www.electrofed.com/about/members.

Preference will be given to applicants pursuing post-secondary education in a discipline that targets a career in the electrical industry, such as Electrical Engineering, Electrical Technologist, Electrical Technician, CertifiedElectrical Technologist, Industrial Distribution, and Business Administration. Kerrwil’s J.W. Kerr Continuing Education Scholarship Award – $3,500

Kerrwil’s J.W. Kerr Continuing Education Scholarship Award is presented in the memory of Kerrwil’s Founder J.W. (Jack) Kerr. The Kerrwil Scholarship Award is granted to a university or college graduate in a Canadian school,who has completed at least their second year in an Engineering or Business program with a minimum cumulative average of 75% with a desire to drive forward in a marketing, product management role in the electrical industry. Applicants must be either a current employee or relative of someone currently employed within the Canadian electrical industry, including electrical wholesale, electrical equipment manufacturing representatives or electrical manufacturing. Founded in 1964, Kerrwil is the oldest privately held publishing company in Canada with a solid electrical industry focus, is a member of Magazines Canada, Canadian Business Media, and supports best practices in publishing. Kerrwil offers a broad range of career business positions including positions in marketing, database development, journalism, and management.
