Climate change, pesticides and land use changes alone cannot fully explain the decline in insect populations. Scientists from the Leibniz-Institute of Freshwater Ecology and Inland Fisheries (IGB) have now discovered that regions of Germany that have experienced a sharp decline in flying insects also have high levels of light pollution.
Following a 2.8% decline in February, the value of building permits issued by Canadian municipalities increased 3.1% to $8.4 billion in March.
Canadian municipalities issued $8.8 billion worth of building permits in December, up 6.0% from November and the fourth consecutive monthly increase.
Soussanna Karas is ESA’s Director of Licensing. Part of her role, which she took on in January 2020, is to manage the ESA licensing department.
The total value of building permits rose 11.6% from a month earlier to $6.9 billion in March. This was the first increase in three months. Higher construction intentions for non-residential buildings in British Columbia and Alberta and for multi-family dwellings in Ontario and British Columbia were responsible for much of the advance at the national level.
Societies have “huge potential” to boost economic performance and generate significant environmental and social benefits by improving energy, asserts The 2015 Energy Productivity and Economic Prosperity Index. Europe alone could double its energy productivity performance on the basis of existing technologies.Key contributors identified by the report include energy efficient lighting, insulation, appliances, and heat pumps.
