Hydro One Announces 2016 William Peyton Hubbard Memorial Award Winners

Hydro One Peyton Memorial Award

Feb 19 2016

Each year, Hydro One honours two outstanding students with the William Peyton Hubbard Memorial Award for their dedication in pursuing studies in disciplines related to the power industry. This year’s recipients are Alexandra Lincoln and Abraham Omorogbe.

The award is in memory of William Peyton Hubbard, Toronto’s first black councilor and advocate of publicly owned electricity, who with Sir Adam Beck, brought electrical power to the people of Ontario. Winners receive a financial award along with a paid opportunity to work for Hydro One in a developmental student placement.

With a focus on business analysis and project management, Alexandra Lincoln enjoys immersing herself in activities that push her intellectual and physical boundaries. The Ryerson University student, who is currently pursuing a Bachelor of Commerce in Business Technology Management, regularly participates in debates and speeches through the school’s Speech and Debate Association. She also manages Ryerson Formula Racing, a student-run design team that designs, builds and eventually races a race car. Alexandra’s philanthropic activities also extend to acting as an advocate on behalf of the National Society of Black Engineers.

Abraham Omorogbe co-founded Canvas Group Canada in 2014, a design firm that specializes in brand identity, graphic design and website development. Since then, Canvas has amassed more than 15 clients including McMaster University’s Psychology and Social Science departments.

Abraham, who is currently studying Software Engineering and Management at McMaster, is also the co-creator of Coursity.me, an app that converts a student course calendar to a digital calendar, which can then be stored on any device. He also serves as the co-president of NSBE McMaster, an organization that seeks to increase the number of black youth entering and completing post-secondary education in the STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math) fields.
