Wieland Electric’s samos Pro Compact: Advanced Safety Features in a Compact, Cost-Effective Package

 May 31, 2016

Wieland Electric Inc., a global manufacturer of electrical interconnect technology, has developed the next generation of its samos PRO programmable safety controller, the samos Pro Compact. With a width of only 45mm, the compact module simplifies safety solutions, while controlling safety functions for a wide variety of industrial applications.

It is complemented by a free programming tool, samos PLAN5+, making programming even simpler, safer and more flexible.

“With the samos Pro Compact, Wieland Electric has created a standard for automation, which will set a new benchmark in time and cost savings,” says Martin Lalonde, application engineer at Wieland Electric. “With modular expandability up to 168 safe I/O, the samos Pro Compact can be used to implement safety controls for a wide range of machine applications.”

The compact module packs a punch, with 16 safe inputs, four safe outputs, and four configurable safe inputs/outputs. The SD program memory card format is easy to handle, and saves time during commissioning, copying and maintenance. Furthermore, an extensive library of certified, powerful function blocks is available for programming the system using the free samos PLAN5+ software tool.

The samos Pro Compact’s integrated USB and Ethernet interfaces enable system access at any time. Industrial Ethernet protocols are integrated in the base module, and additional gateways are available. The online diagnostics and system logbook integrated into the samos PLAN5+ tool provide user support for remote maintenance of the system.

The rugged samos Pro Compact can be used under harsh ambient conditions, with a switching capacity of 4A at each system output and an operating temperature range of -25°C to +65°C.

The samos PLAN5+ enables standard-compliant documentation of the machine by issuing a tailored report. The module meets all relevant safety standards, including SIL CL 3 according to EN 62061 and PL e / category 4 according to EN ISO 13849-1. The samos PRO COMPACT is cULus certified.
