Greenlee Next-Gen Battery Powered Hydraulic Tools

November 14, 2016

Greenlee Textron Inc. new line of Next Generation battery-powered hydraulic tools include real-time communication technology and improved ergonomics, focus on optimizing the tool’s centre of gravity for the comfort of the worker, and provide a longer battery life supplied by an enhanced Makita platform.

“A lot has changed since Greenlee introduced the first battery-powered hydraulic cutters and crimpers back in 1995,” says Ryan Berg, Director of Product Management for Greenlee. “Today’s professional electricians want tools that have the latest in technological advances, such as a full diagnostic readout that prove the job was done correctly, a more ergonomic design and, of course, more power. Our new battery-powered hydraulic tools are packed with all of these features and many more.”

Tools in the new Next Generation line include 6-, 12-, and 15-ton crimping tools, as well as cable and bolt cutters, and a 10K PSI pump with removable heads that have the capabilities to do both.

Each product in this new line of tools features Bluetooth communication technology. This allows electricians to wirelessly manage their tools, access tool history, monitor service timelines, and customize tool operation to suit their preferences.

Each crimper is equipped with Intelli-CRIMP technology, a unique pressure sensor that monitors the crimping process, ensuring the correct amount of pressure is applied to each crimp. Crimpers equipped with this feature emit audible and visual alerts to notify the operator when a crimp is below specifications, giving assurance to the operator that the job was done right.

Some tools are also equipped with Auto Retraction Stop (ARS), which retracts the ram just enough to prepare the tool for the next cycle, saving time and energy. Retraction Stop Repeat (RSR) allows the operator to partially retract the ram and repeat that retraction for subsequent crimps.

The improved ergonomics of the Next Generation tools includes a reverse tapered hand grip for increased grip strength, and optimal hand positioning to help avoid user fatigue. The rugged housing construction protects internal components against dirt and water intrusion. There is also a larger hydraulic reservoir for increased oil capacity and application for in-line products. The enhanced tool design also features an LED display that exhibits real-time communication of tool details including: battery charge level, pressure sensor readings, and cycle information.

The new Next Generation tools also come with an upgraded high capacity Makita battery platform that includes an active battery monitoring system for longer lasting productivity. The upgraded power capacity also provides more battery supply, protection, and a fuel gauge to inform the user of the battery’s remaining amount of charge.

The new Greenlee Next Generation battery-powered hydraulic cutter and crimpers offer a high-quality solution for faster, safer and easier wire and cable termination. For more information, visit www.greenlee.com or call 1-800-435-0786.
