Legrand’s New Radiant Dual-Function AFCI/GFCI Receptacle Reduces Callbacks and Inventory

November 14, 2016

Legrand’s new Radiant dual-function AFCI/GFCI receptacle is the latest innovation in electrical safety, and a Code-approved alternative to dual-function AFCI/GFCI breakers.

Designed to protect against electrical fires caused by arc faults and injury due to electrical shock, these new devices are compliant with NEC AFCI and GFCI requirements in kitchens and laundry areas for new construction, circuit modifications/extensions and replacement receptacles.

Like GFCI receptacles, AFCI/GFC receptacles are installed in the living space, so homeowners can see the indicator light, and perform TEST and RESET locally. The Radiant dual-function AFCI/GFCI receptacle has separate indicator lights for AFCI and GFCI, making it easy to distinguish between a trip caused by an arc fault and a trip caused by a ground fault. This means less confusion for the homeowner and therefore fewer callbacks for the contractor.

Unlike AFCI/GFCI breakers, which must match the brand of the breaker box, the radiant dual-function AFCI/GFCI receptacles fit any wall box, reducing the amount of inventory a contractor needs to carry on their truck.

The GFCI function has a self-test feature that tests itself every three seconds — instead of the industry-standard three hours — providing an unprecedented level of protection.

The Radiant dual-function AFCI/GFCI receptacle, which is part of Legrand’s Radiant collection, comes with ground terminal back-wiring and two holes per termination for added flexibility and faster installation. The auto-ground clip prevents line-load miswiring and assures a positive ground to the metal box is established. Each Dual-Function AFCI/GFCI Receptacle has tamper-resistant features and Legrand’s patented SafeLock protection for added safety.
