BC Hydro Aboriginal Scholarships & Bursaries: Deadline Approaching

April 26, 2017

May 15 is the deadline to apply for BC Hydro Aboriginal scholarships and bursaries, available to Status, Non-Status, Metis and Inuit students who are residents of BC and are enrolled in an accredited full-time post-secondary program.

Students in Grade 12 planning to pursue a full-time, accredited post-secondary education within Canada are also eligible to apply. Shown in photo: Shaylene Dekock-Kruger, an electrical engineering student at UBC Okanagan in Kelowna, who earned a BC Hydro Aboriginal Scholarship in 2015.

Here’s what BC Hydro is offering:

  • One Randy Brant Memorial scholarship based on a combination of academic achievement and outstanding community involvement
  • $5,000 scholarships allocated to students pursuing a degree related to BC Hydro careers
  • $2,000 bursaries allocated to students pursuing a diploma, certificate or trade program related to BC Hydro careers

In 2016, BC Hydro awarded scholarships and bursaries to students from Cowichan Tribes, Gitlaxt’aamiks, Gitsegukla, Gitwangak, Katzie First Nation, Lake Babine Nation, Lower Nicola Indian Band, Namgis, Nuxalk Nation, Pentiction Indian Band, Saulteau First Nation, Simpcw Nation, Squamish Nation, Taku River Tlingit, Upper Nicola Band, and Xaxli’p First Nation.
