The U.S. Department of Energy (DoE) has put a request in the 2016 budget for US$3.5 billion over the next 10 years for investment in smart grid foundational technology development, enhanced security capabilities, and greater institutional support and stakeholder engagement. The request appears in the first installation of a Quadrennial Energy Review, which includes initiatives to promote grid modernization.
The federal government has announced $2.75 billion in funding over five years, starting in 2021, to enhance public transit systems and switch them to cleaner electrical power, including supporting the purchase of zero-emission public transit and school buses.
