The Supervisory Board of LEDVANCE GmbH (LEDVANCE) has appointed Jacob C. Tarn, Ph.D., a well-known LED Lighting industry veteran, as the new Chairman of the Management Board and new CEO of LEDVANCE. Assuming his position on February 1, 2018, Dr. Tarn will focus on accelerating the company’s transformation from a traditional lamps manufacturer to an industry-leading, innovation-driven full LED lighting company. Dr. Tarn will manage the company out of its global headquarters in Garching, Germany.

Jacob Tarn brings more than 30 years of international experience in the global LED lighting market to his new role as CEO of LEDVANCE. Most recently, as Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer of the LED business unit at Samsung Electronics in South Korea, Dr. Tarn played a crucial role in turning around Samsung’s LED business.

Tim Yun Chen, Chairman of the Supervisory Board at LEDVANCE, comments: “Jacob Tarn is an internationally renowned expert in the LED lighting industry, who has shown how to bring a business back on track. The Supervisory Board as well as the company owners are convinced that he is the ideal candidate to lead LEDVANCE into a successful new era. The Supervisory Board will provide him and his team its full backing and support.”

“LEDVANCE has all it takes to become a key player in the global LED lighting market and has already successfully expanded into growth areas such as LED luminaires, smart home solutions and LED lamps. I look forward to working with the entire LEDVANCE team to continue on this path at an accelerated pace, turn LEDVANCE into an innovative full LED lighting company and thereby consequently seize the opportunities that lie in front of us,” says Jacob Tarn.

Rüdiger Tibbe, who served as interim CEO, will continue to be responsible for the operational execution of the company transformation as Chief Transformation Officer at LEDVANCE.
