SaskPower Offering Free Energy Assessments for Small-Medium Businesses

SaskPower is partnering with Natural Resources Canada (NRCAN) to offer free energy assessments to qualifying Saskatchewan small and medium businesses.

The Walk-through Energy Assessment program was established in the fall of 2016 to help small and medium businesses identify ways to decrease their energy use.

“This program is a valuable resource for businesses looking to save money on their power bill,” said Shawn Schmidt, SaskPower Vice President of Distribution and Customer Services. “Thanks to funding from Natural Resources Canada, even more businesses can now take advantage of this great program and streamline their energy use.”

Each audit includes a session with a commercial efficiency expert. The walk-through includes an assessment of a commercial property, a summary of the energy consumption, and recommendations ranging in cost to reduce consumption. This can result in significant savings – both immediately and in the long term.

To qualify, the business must have fewer than 500 employees. A typical assessment costs between $3,000 and $7,000 depending on the size of the business but is now free until the program reaches maximum capacity.

NRCAN is also funding training for eligible SaskPower small and medium business customers through the Canadian Institute for Energy Training for a limited time. Two training programs are available. The Energy Management Professional (EMP) Training is an introduction to energy management and Certified Energy Managers (CEM) Training is for current energy efficiency professionals.
