Shock and arc flash are potentially catastrophic events that can cause severe or fatal injuries. Employers have a legal duty to protect workers from workplace hazards and electrical-based hazards present a very real threat to worker safety.

The CSA Z462 standard provides guidance on integrating electrical safety programs into Occupational Health & Safety management systems, implementing best practices for working on and around electrical equipment, and demonstrating due diligence in preventing electrical injuries. Updated to reflect numerous changes to the 2018 edition of CSA Z462, this course can help you ensure that your workers and your business are better equipped to deal with electrical hazards.

About the 2018 Edition of CSA Z462

  • Developed in conjunction with the 2018 edition of NFPA 70E to help ensure technical consistency
  • Incorporates updates from the updated 2018 Canadian Electrical Code, Part I and CSA Z460 – Control of hazardous energy – Lockout and other methods
  • Builds upon previous editions by including new definitions that harmonize with other safety standards such as CSA Z1000 and CSA Z1002 and those dealing with arc flash and shock hazards.
  • Features additional requirements aimed at establishing more robust electrical safety programs.
  • Defines new criteria and guidance on risk assessment, risk-based decision making and the effect of human error on risk assessment.
