CAF-FCA To Leverage Momentum of Women in Trades Movement to Create Change for Other Under-Represented Skilled Trades Workers

July 5, 2023

To include more skilled tradespeople in a national conversation around diversity, equity, and inclusion in workplaces, CAF-FCA will host its first Supporting Equity in the Trades Conference starting in 2025 on May 24-26 in Toronto, ON.

The Honourable Seamus O’Regan said it best when he addressed delegates at the Canadian Apprenticeship Forum’s 2023 Supporting Women in Trades Conference on June 11, 2023, “If you don’t include everyone, you’re not getting the best”.

Since 2018, CAF-FCA has been hosting the only national Supporting Women in Trades Conference (SWiT) and was most recently in Winnipeg, Manitoba to welcome more than 325 delegates from across Canada. At an evening celebration at the iconic Canadian Museum of Human Rights, CAF-FCA CEO France Daviault, shared news that the organization will expand the mandate of its biennial event to include even more people in the community built by and for women in trades.

She commented, “Differently abled, gender diverse and 2SLGBTQ+ individuals, Indigenous and racialized people who work in the skilled trades, will benefit from a collective voice. I believe that women in the skilled trades can now lend a hand up and create an inclusive community and network for all those who deserve equitable opportunities and better treatment.”
