ESA is Searching for Two New Board Members

ESA

April 26, 2024

Currently, ESA is searching for two dynamic, forward-thinking leaders; one from the Licensed Electrical Contractor (“LEC”) sector and second, a representative from the electrical manufacturing industry. In both profiles’ expertise in strategic planning, regulatory oversight and government affairs, consensus building, and good governance are required. Additionally, one of the candidates must bring strong IT and systems expertise, ideally with significant experience overseeing large scale IT systems implementations.

The Electrical Safety Authority’s (ESA) mission is to improve electrical safety for the well-being of the people of Ontario. With the unprecedented changes in technology and the electrification transformation underway in Ontario, it’s an exciting time to help guide ESA, a delegated administrative authority (DAA), as it evolves its role as a valued part of the electricity ecosystem. In support of this mission, ESA’s Board of Directors provides corporate governance, regulatory oversight, and strategic guidance to the organization.

ESA maintains a skills-based Board to ensure a proper balance of skills, expertise, and experience across the cadre of the Board of Directors. The nomination and selection process is designed to maintain that optimal balance. Additionally, and consistent with its commitment to Inclusion, Diversity, Equity, and Accessibility, ESA is actively working to diversify the composition and reach of the organization, add to leadership capacity and accountability, and foster an inclusive work environment.

As a DAA, ESA acts according to the Safety and Consumer Statutes Administration Act and an Administrative Agreement with the Ministry of Public and Business Service Delivery (MPBSD).The Board is accountable to stakeholders for ESA’s performance. Stakeholders include participants in the electrical industry, government, and the general public.

The Board of Directors will determine each Director’s term length and eligibility for reappointment up to a maximum of three terms of three years each.

ESA is unable to elect an employee of an electrical trade association as a member of the Board.

ESA is a private, not-for-profit corporation headquartered in Mississauga, Ontario with staff deployed across the province.
