This course introduces the role of an Electrical Field Safety Representative (FSR) in British Columbia and explains the structure of the safety system under Technical Safety BC. It covers key B.C. codes, acts, and regulations relevant to FSRs. The course also highlights updates to the 2024 Canadian Electrical Code and important regulatory notices from Technical Safety B.C.

Learning Objectives

Upon successful completion of this course, you will be able to:

• Describe the key responsibilities and legal requirements of an FSR in B.C.
• Identify the main rules and responsibilities for regulated electrical work under the Safety Standards Act in B.C.
• Apply the key requirements of the Safety Standards General Regulation for safe, legal, and compliant electrical work in B.C.
• Apply the requirements of the Electrical Safety Regulation to oversee safe, compliant, and properly permitted electrical installations in B.C.
• Apply the requirements of the Skilled Trades BC Act for proper apprentice supervision ratios, registration, and compliance on electrical job sites in B.C.
• Apply Technical Safety BC regulatory notices to resolve compliance scenarios involving electrical permits, live work, and incident reporting in B.C.
• Identify common causes of electrical installation failures by referencing specific CE Code 2024 rules and Technical Safety BC regulations.
