PowerStream Energy Management Program Encourages Customers to Save

Powerstream Energy Program

Pilot initiative provides innovative opportunity for participants to save on electricity

PowerStream has launched an innovative pilot, featuring advanced energy management technology, to a limited number residential customers living in the utility’s service territory.

With funding from the Ministry of Energy’s Smart Grid Fund, the Residential Energy Management (REM) pilot tests technologies that help consumers reduce energy consumption and manage costs while giving them greater control over their day-to-day usage. Customers will be the first to test the system, which is designed to automatically adjust to user preferences, continuously learn and adapt to the user’s lifestyle, and provide insights on energy use.

Participating customers will be equipped with a new thermostat, a touchpad, two smart plugs, two door sensors and two motion sensors. All equipment is installed by a certified technician and will become property of the participant at the end of the trial, a value of $800. In addition, customers will have access to online and mobile applications to monitor and update their system from anywhere a with Wi-Fi connection.

PowerStream is the first utility in Ontario to offer this innovative energy management program to customers. The project is funded by Ontario’s Smart Grid Fund and is structured to act as a template for other Ontario distribution companies to follow once the pilot is complete in 2016.

PowerStream customers interested in participating in this pilot are encouraged to call 1-844-481-2661 or visit www.PowerStream.ca/REM for additional details.
