Economic Forecast: BC to Lead Growth in 2016
December 18, 2015
British Columbia’s economy will lead the country by a wide margin over the near term, says the Conference Board of Canada in its most recent quarterly economic forecast. The province’s real GDP is forecast to grow 3.1 per cent this year and 3.6 per cent in 2016.
Manitoba, and Ontario will also be growth leaders in 2016, and while Alberta and Saskatchewan will continue to feel pain from difficulties in the energy sector, neither will be in recession in 2016, the board says. This divergence in regional economic performances is expected to prevail for the foreseeable future.
The quarterly economic forecast provides highlights of the Provincial Outlook report, which presents the short-term outlook for Canada’s provinces.
