Maritime Electric Appoints New President and CEO

John D. Gaudet has been appointed President & Chief Executive Officer of Maritime Electric, effective April 1, 2016. Gaudet replaces Fred O’Brien who will retire on March 31, 2016.

“John has made a significant contribution to the Corporation with his operational leadership and extensive experience with the Company,” says James Bradley, Chair of the Board of Directors, Maritime Electric. “He has led significant improvements in operating efficiency and system reliability for the Company and we look forward to his continued leadership in his new role.”

Gaudet has been with Maritime Electric for 35 years and has held the position of Vice President, in various areas of Operations since 1997. From 1981 to 1997 John held positions in Production, Customer Service, Distribution Services, Corporate Planning and Energy Supply and Operations.

Gaudet replaces Fred O’Brien, who is retiring the end of March after 28 years with Fortis, and as Maritime Electric’s President & Chief Executive Officer since 2006. From 1998 to 2005 he worked as Vice President, Operations with Fortis Ontario Inc. in Fort Erie. After returning to Maritime Electric he was Vice President, Customer Service in 2005. Prior to that, from 1988 to 1998 Fred’s areas of responsibilities included Engineering, Customer Service, Environment, Safety, and Operations.
