Women looking to enter or continue their education and training in the Electrical Trades will now be able to apply for funding to help cover the cost of tuition and books thanks to Mott Electric GP.

“From small wiring to large cable jobs, women are both talented and capable in a historically male dominated trade,” stated Dan Mott, President of Mott Electric GP.

“We believe that encouraging and supporting women as they enter the trade is a great way to contribute to the development of the electrical trades and supply of workers in industry.”

It is estimated that up to 15,000 construction jobs will be unfilled due to labour shortages by 2025.  In order to narrow that gap, industry leaders are implementing solutions to ensure that traditionally underutilized labour sources are met with minimal barriers.  One such underutilized group is women.

“Women continue to have low participation rates in the electrical trades, despite growing opportunities,” says Abigail Fulton, Executive Director of the Construction Foundation of BC. “Mott Electric’s commitment to supporting women in the trades will help to break down barriers.”

In a recent poll conducted by the Industry Training Authority’s Women in Trades Training initiative, tradeswomen report high levels of job satisfaction and increased confidence.  Given that many entry level positions in electrical can pay almost double that of other sectors, the Electrical Trades are a great option for women to consider when planning for their career.
