City Housing Hamilton Receives $1.6 Million saveONenergy Incentive from Horizon Utilities

City Housing Hamilton in southern Ontario is the beneficiary of a $1.6 million cheque, presented by Horizon Utilities, for energy retrofit projects.The incentive was made possible through Ontario’s Independent Electricity System Operator (IESO) saveONenergyom program, which encourages municipal, commercial and industrial customers to implement projects that will use electricity more efficiently while reducing energy costs and emissions.

CityHousing Hamilton retro fitted eight multifamily buildings with new air handling units, solar air heating, insulation and efficient lighting. As a result, CityHousing Hamilton expects to
• save more than $2.7 million over the lifespan of the new equipment
• reduce electricity use equivalent to powering 100 homes per year
• reduce its carbon dioxide emissions by 243 tonnes annually, or the equivalent of removing 70 cars from the road for a year.
