Join ECABC’s Call for Prompt Payment in BC

May 17, 2024

On Monday, May 6th, ECABC launched a campaign across its social media platforms to create awareness for the need for prompt payment laws in British Columbia, now.

Year after year, BC’s lack of prompt payment has been the #1 issue for ECABC’s contractors. Why? Because prompt payment ensures that contractors and subcontractors receive timely compensation for their work, allowing them to cover their expenses, pay their employees, and reinvest in their businesses.

“ECABC’s members are not alone. We are joined in our advocacy efforts by many construction industry and labour organizations who also want BC to adopt prompt payment legislation now; prompt payment is the single most impactful item our government can implement to support the construction industry and workers, and BC has waited long enough,” said the organization on their website.

ECABC is calling on the provincial government to commit to prompt payment legislation this year.

Most of Canada has already adopted prompt payment legislation for construction projects. In most other provinces, the right to get paid for work done in a timely way is enshrined in law, and it has worked well. BC is an outlier, and our industry deserves the same protections as the rest of the country.
