Contemporary Controls Skorpion IP Routers

Skorpion IP Routers 400

Contemporary Controls IP routers allow your machine to utilize its own set of factory-configured IP addresses and allows your customer to access your machine using any desired IP address. As a machine builder, this frees you from changing IP addresses within your machine during install. The use of same configuration across different machine cells and application reduces setup time and eliminates troubleshooting associated with changing IP addresses. The use of an IP router also reduces the number of IP addresses required from the IT department and keeps the machine traffic restricted to its local subnet while the required access to any machine device can be easily achieved with the use of Port Forwarding or NAT.

The EIPR links two 10/100 Mbps Internet Protocol (IPv4) networks-passing appropriate traffic while blocking all other traffic. One network is the local-area-network (LAN); the other is the wide-area-network (WAN). The built-in stateful firewall passes communication initiated on the LAN-side while blocking WAN-side initiated communication. With Port Address Translation (PAT), LAN-side clients can access the Internet. Network Address Translation (NAT) allows a one-to-one translation between LAN-side and WAN-side devices. With Port Forwarding, LAN-side devices can be accessed from the Internet. The EIPR incorporates a four-port Ethernet switch for multiple LAN-side connections. An external Ethernet-based modem — cable or DSL — can be used to connect to the Internet. DSL modems connect via the PPPoE protocol. The EIGR series provides the same functionality but has gigabit ports along with higher throughput capacity. A USB port on the EIPR models allows expansion to wireless networks.
