ESA Board of Directors Recruiting for a Director Representing Ontario Licensed Electrical Contractors

May 12, 2025

The Electrical Safety Authority’s (ESA) mission is to improve electrical safety for the well-being of the people of Ontario. With the unprecedented changes in technology and the electrification transformation underway in Ontario, it’s an exciting time to help guide ESA, a delegated administrative authority (DAA), as it evolves its role as a valued part of the electricity ecosystem. In support of this mission, ESA’s Board of Directors provides corporate governance, regulatory oversight, and strategic guidance to the organization.

ESA maintains a skills-based Board to ensure a proper balance of skills, expertise, and experience across the cadre of the Board of Directors. The nomination and selection process is designed to maintain that optimal balance of core attributes, competencies and experience, set out in ESA’s Administrative Agreement, which may be accessed through this link. Additionally, and consistent with its commitment to Inclusion, Diversity, Equity, and Accessibility, ESA is actively working to diversify the composition and reach of the organization, add to leadership capacity and accountability, and foster an inclusive work environment.

As a DAA, ESA acts according to the Safety and Consumer Statutes Administration Act and an Administrative Agreement with the Ministry of Public and Business Service Delivery and Procurement (MPBSDP). The Board is accountable to stakeholders for ESA’s performance. Stakeholders include participants in the electrical industry, government, and the general public.

Currently, ESA is seeking a strategic minded forward-thinking senior leader from the Licensed Electrical Contractor (“LEC”) sector. Additionally, ESA has determined that the ideal candidate will have strong IT and systems expertise, with significant experience overseeing large scale IT system implementations.

The Board of Directors will determine the Director’s term length and eligibility for reappointment up to a maximum of three terms of three years each.

ESA has an important mission to improve electrical safety for the people of Ontario. This mandate is the cornerstone upon which the Board’s actions are founded. A director’s duty is owed first and foremost to the corporation and therefore must maintain independence and objectivity and disclose any actual or potential conflicts of interest. Accordingly, we require all candidates to disclose in their application package any actual, potential and perceived conflicts.

ESA is unable to elect an employee of an electrical trade association as a member of the Board. ESA is a private, not-for-profit corporation headquartered in Mississauga, Ontario with staff deployed across the province.

Diversity, Equity and Inclusion

Electrical Safety Authority (ESA) is an equal opportunity employer. In accordance with the Accessible Canada Act, 2019 and all applicable provincial accessibility standards, upon request, accommodation will be provided by the Electrical Safety Authority (ESA) throughout the recruitment, selection and/or assessment process to applicants with disabilities.

To Apply

Applications from those meeting the above criteria must be submitted prior to Wednesday, May 21, 2025, and should be submitted to margaret.campbell@electricalsafety.on.ca.

ESA would like to thank all applicants but regret that they are only able to personally contact those individuals selected for an interview.
