How to do Business with ESA During a Canada Post Disruption

May 19, 2025

The Electrical Safety Authority (ESA) is reminding stakeholders that they can continue to do business during a postal strike and ensure they meet their compliance obligations. This includes applications for inspection, LEC and ME licence renewals and payments.

Online Is Your Best Option

ESA has several options for LECs and MEs to meet their obligations and keep their account in good standing. Additionally, all correspondence (Certificates, defect notices, invoices, etc.) can be obtained through the online system.

ESA strongly recommends that you have a valid email address on file with them. This allows them to email your correspondence including application confirmations, defect notices, certificates of inspection and connection authorizations.

Applications For Inspection & Notices of Defect Correction

Submit applications for inspection and notice of defect correction online to reduce call wait times.

Sign up for ESA Online Services

A note about call wait-times: Call volumes may be higher than normal during a mail disruption. Online, email and fax options will provide faster service and reduce your wait time. Check esasafe.com for updates.

Payments

Make sure your account remains in good standing. Payment options include:

  1. ESA Online Services – Use the Billing History function to pay by credit card. Call to sign up: 1-877-372-7233 and select Option 4.
  2. Phone in your credit card payment to 1-877-372-7233 and select option #4.
  3. Telephone or Internet Banking – Add ESA as a payee on your bank account. This can be arranged through your financial institution directly.
  4. Courier cheques or money orders to: 400 Sheldon Drive, Unit 1, Cambridge, Ontario N1T 2H9.
  5. Electronic Funds – Set this up with your bank using ESA’s EFT Banking Information.

Licence Renewals

  1. Please email licensing related documents, applications or photos to esa.licensing@electricalsafety.on.ca
  2. Fax to 1-888-251-7377

If ESA has an email on file, they will email licences to LECs and MEs and follow with mailed copies once the mail situation has resolved.
