Darryl Cruickshank Memorial Award Presented to Ray Massey

The Canadian Council of Directors of Apprenticeship (CCDA) has awarded the fourth biennial Darryl Cruickshank Memorial Award (DCMA) to Ray Massey, former Chair of the Alberta Apprenticeship and Industry Training Board, at the Canadian Apprenticeship Forum’s 2016 conference in Vancouver, BC (In the photo: 2016 award recipient Ray Massey, right and CCDA Past Chair Jeff Ritter).

Through Massey’s work as an entrepreneur, employer representative, and chair of many apprenticeship and industry boards, Massey has energetically promoted apprenticeship and trades training as a lifelong journey. He serves as a role model for how to have a successful and rewarding career in the skilled trades.

Massey implemented several key initiatives for academic excellence in the skilled trades, as well as grants and financial awards for apprentices in Alberta. He also actively supported provincial, national and international skills events and competitions. In all of these roles, he was a tireless advocate for apprenticeship training. Throughout his career, Massey has energetically promoted apprenticeship and trades training as a lifelong journey and a rewarding career with many possibilities.

The Darryl Cruickshank Memorial Award is presented every second year to an individual from industry in Canada who has demonstrated inspirational leadership in the development and promotion of apprenticeship training in Red Seal trades for aspiring skilled tradespersons.
